This page is dedicated to all the men and women who served in the armed forces from the 1st of November 1955 through the 30th of April 1975. My emphasis is on the soldiers, airmen, sailors and marines who served in country in combat during that time. And we must also never forget the selfless character of the nurses, who held many young men tenderly while they died in their arms, bodies destroyed by ferocious combat.
All of these people displayed an uncommon valor in the face of a war that our nation had rejected without concern for those risking and giving their lives.
Instead of putting the collective blame where it belonged, at the feet of our commander in chief, our congress, and a few of the top military leaders, it was dumped upon the grunts who prosecuted the war as dutiful citizens. These men bore the scars of a savage war and came home to a nation that wanted to ignore or condemn them, and to wash from their memories this war that few truly understood.
They will never be forgotten.
If you wore the uniform during those years, hold your head up and be proud that you were there when the bell tolled for thee!
(I served in the US Navy from 1965 to 1968)
